BECOMING ACTIVE

Everyone can contribute to reducing light pollution/light emissions. This is very easy to implement with the help of four tips.

  1. Only illuminate when necessary.
Before any lighting is installed, the question should be asked whether it makes sense. You can also think about the duration of the lighting. Does it really have to be permanent lighting or can motion detectors and timers be used to set limits to artificial light?

  2. Only illuminate what is necessary.
When installing artificial lighting, care should be taken to keep the radius of the lighting as small as possible, i.e. not to shine unnecessarily far.

  3. Be careful when choosing luminaires.
When selecting luminaires, attention should be paid to their color temperature. This should be below 3000°K so that the light is not too bright and attracts an unnecessarily large number of insects.

  4. Only illuminate from top to bottom.
This direction of illumination should be strictly adhered to avoid the formation of so-called "light bells".

If you follow these advices, you not only help to counteract light pollution and enhance the natural night sky, but also save energy and money at the same time.
